mpkoz “With these examples of the Berlin trait, gone are all references to the soft edges and rounded corners of Bauhaus design and full-on Brutalism takes over. Looking at #377 and #582, I can immediately imagine the square, concrete block facades of modern, Slavic architecture permeating the city. Forty-five degree angles, beveled edges, and a cold sense of engineering. These editions don’t seem particularly friendly, but this does not take away from the layered, complex compositions, capturing exactly what I intended some editions to demonstrate. I can see in them a birds-eye view of east Berlin, the rooftops of Brutalist buildings. They are overwhelmingly architectural.
Adding to the inhospitable nature of these editions is the use of the "Ack" palette. I think these editions are particularly complimentary to the themes of ACK’s work and represent the brooding disillusionment he is able to capture so well in many of his pieces. The acid greens and darker, cold colors create an ambiance of a surrealist night-time scene.”
